LEGEND Announces Next Generation DDR2 Desktop and Server Memory Modules Posted on: Jul 15, 2004
Adelaide, South Australia - (July 16, 2004). Legend Corporation, a leading manufacturer of memory products announces the release of next generation DDR2 unbuffered modules in capacity of 256mb and 512mb in 533mhz.

DDR2 speed grades have been released at 400mhz and 533mhz with faster speeds of 667expected in 2005. Legend sees the 533mhz speed as the entry level for DDR2 .

Memory Speed Memory Chip Classification Module Classification Module Bandwidth Dual-Channel DDR2 System Bandwidth
400MHz DDR2-400 PC2-3200 3.2GB/s 6.4GB/s
533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200 4.2GB/s 8.4GB/s
667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300 5.3GB/s 10.6GB/s

DDR2 is the next evolutionary step for the memory industry. Being only available in FBGA (Fine Pitch Ball Grid Array) chip package, it offers the PC user increased bandwith, lower power consumption and improved temperature
characteristics over DDR1. The change in package type will also allow for future density increases to enable single module capacity up to 4Gb.

Memory Type Clock Speed Name Bandwidth Single-Channel Bandwidth Dual-Channel
DDR266 133 MHz DDR PC2100 2,100 MB/s 4,200 MB/s
DDR333 166 MHz DDR PC2700 2,700 MB/s 5,400 MB/s
DDR400 200 MHz DDR PC3200 3,200 MB/s 6,400 MB/s
DDR2 400 200 MHz DDR PC2 3200* 3,200 MB/s 6,400 MB/s
DDR2 533 266 MHz DDR PC2 4300* 4,266 MB/s 8,533 MB/s
DDR2 667 333 MHz DDR PC2 5300* 5,333 MB/s 10,666 MB/s
DDR2 800 400 MHz DDR PC2 6400*6,400 MB/s 12,800 MB/s

DDR2 offers CAS Latency options 3, 4 and 5.
The first LEGEND modules release have a CAS Latency of 4.

DDR2 is expected to become the memory of choice for the consumer by 2005 as motherboard and CPU manufacturers take advantage of the increased bandwidth available.

Unbuffered DDR2 is required for the 915GEV/D915GUX/D915PCY/D915PCM/D915PBL chipset desktop motherboards currently being released by Intel.

Legend offers Intel certified memory solutions for all available Intel DDR2 platforms.
